The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is currently seeking a Research and Data Analyst. The role of the Research and Data Analyst is to undertake key pieces of strategic reporting and analysis and research focussing on the relationship between external labour markets and FWO activities, stakeholder engagement and improve research coordination commissioned by FWO business areas.

**Note**: the Research and Data Analyst role is distinct from the Operational Data Analyst role that is currently advised.

**About the Team**

The Strategic Research, Analysis and Reporting team (SRAR) is responsible for the ongoing reporting, analysis and research requirements of the FWO. It is the mission of the SRAR team to inform agency wide decision making and assist the achievement of strategic objectives by providing high quality, accessible, reliable and meaningful analysis and research findings. SRAR is responsible for producing accurate data and statistics that are used externally in many pieces of work including our Annual Report, Senate Estimates appearances and media. SRAR has a reputation for excellence and reliability in the production of ‘fit for purpose’ data, analysis and statistics.

**About the FWO**

The FWO is an independent statutory office established by the Fair Work Act 2009 (Fair Work Act). Our functions outline the responsibilities we have as set by the Fair Work Act to achieve our purpose:

- provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations
- promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws
- inquire into and investigate breaches of the Fair Work Act
- take appropriate enforcement action
- perform our statutory functions efficiently, effectively, economically and ethically.

**Typical Duties**

The duties of a Research and Data Analyst include, however, are not limited to:

- Assisting in ensuring high quality, consistent and timely reporting of operational data
- Producing well-written pieces of analysis that are informed by stakeholder needs
- Manipulating, collating and analysing data
- Liaising with stakeholders to identify areas of research interest and/or need
- Assisting with data improvement and enhancement activities as required
- Contributing to a wide range of written material including briefings, reports and presentations to inform the work of stakeholders.

**Selection Criteria**
- Experience in the preparation of reports, the ability to identify key issues and provide advice to key stakeholders.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills including the ability to write for a range of audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and analyse statistical data using relevant software, such as Microsoft Excel and Tableau.
- Excellent organisational skills including the ability to manage competing work priorities to meet tight deadlines, and to work professionally to complete tasks as an individual and as a member of a team.

Additional desirable skills include the ability to manage a data project with limited supervision.
