**About the role**

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for two Rangers to work within the Blue Mountains Branch as part of the team that contributes towards managing the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage.

A core responsibility of a ranger’s work is to ensure that the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service’s obligations are met through the conservation of both natural and cultural heritage values of parks. Rangers provide effective management of natural and cultural heritage by planning, implementing and supervising projects, environmental assessments, visitor and stakeholder liaison, and field-based activities including bushfire management and law enforcement.

**About You**

Your passion for your community and environment, coupled with strong attention to detail and customer service skills will be key to your success in this role. You will have a proven record of achievement in operational and environmental planning in sensitive natural and cultural landscapes.

You will participate in visitor safety management and activities including firefighting, search and rescue and event management. As a Ranger you will assist in project management, interagency initiatives, ecological restoration, threatened species recovery actions, wildlife management, compliance activities, weed control and feral animal control to protect and conserve the natural and cultural heritage values of the reserves you will be responsible for.

You should be able to demonstrate strong communication skills (oral and written) with an ability to influence communication across large and diverse stakeholder group with a strong passion for the community.

You will have a motivated, flexible, adaptable, team orientated approach when working in a team to ensure expectations of customers and stakeholders are managed.

**Essential requirements**
- A degree or equivalent relevant to the field operations of the Agency.
- Current Australian Class C Drivers licence or equivalent and ability to operate four-wheel-drive vehicles.
- Required to obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties.
- Willingness to fly in light aircraft and preparedness and ability to be involved in incident management duties including firefighting.
- Applicants must meet the requirements of a specific medical assessment which is inclusive of a clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles (i.e. moderate level Task-Based Assessment for Firefighters) within the 12-month probationary period, if relevant. _
- The role holder must obtain certification at the appropriate level prior to undertaking firefighting/incident control duties._
