The Queensland Government has recently introduced the Information Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Bill which, if passed, will make changes to the Information Privacy Act 2009 and the Right to Information Act 2009. A major component of these changes will be the introduction of a Mandatory Data Breach Notification Scheme (MDBN) in Queensland.
This newly created position at OIC will play a key role in the introduction of the MDBN and will have the opportunity to work within our dedicated and experienced Privacy team.
Initially this position will be responsible for establishing the MDBN and once it is established, move into administering and managing the MDBN.
- exceptional communication skills;

- experience in administering a complaints or compliance regime (or similar); and
- responsive and supportive people leadership skills.

This is 12 month, full-time (flexible) opportunity with the possibility of extension.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a team responsible for managing the regulation of the mandatory data breach notification scheme under the IP Act.
- Management of the mandatory data breach notification scheme will include:

- triaging notifications received by the OIC;
- overseeing investigations about the compliance by agencies with the IP Act upon the receipt of a complaint, information or upon the Commissioner's own initiative;
- making recommendations to management about risks in relation privacy; and
- reporting in relation to the compliance by agencies with their obligations under the MDBN.
- Develop, maintain and monitor critical relationships with clients, stakeholders and service providers for the purpose of achieving and sustaining the performance of other functions under the IP Act.
- Provide high level advice to senior managers about complaints and investigations and make recommendations to address data breaches, including serious and systemic issues.
