The Transplantation Immunology Laboratory has a strong focus on understanding how genetic variation in immune control gene impacts our health, our response to infection and disease susceptibility and cancer. The Transplant Immunology Laboratory utilises functional genomics approaches to show how genetic diversity in the master inflammatory regulator gene
_TNFAIP3_ [aka A20] can alter protein function and thereby the threshold of inflammation with implications for autoimmunity and transplantation, but also resilience to infection and cancer.
Because these studies reflect on genetic diversity evident in modern human populations, including that of Australian First Nations people, this work would advance impact goals of equity and access in health, as well as contribute to the building of population and personalised based understanding of infection and inflammation for diverse populations.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The role is The Research Officer, Level 1 to 3, is accountable for conducting independent experiments within the Transplantation Immunology Laboratory in a collaborative framework with their supervisor. In principle, an RO conducts research work under guidance from a more senior scientist and they would be demonstrating increasing independence as they progress from RO1 to RO3. We are looking for someone with a PhD in molecular biology and immunology, who is familiar with mouse models of inflammation and in vivo immune analysis. Some experience with genomics would be an advantage, as would experience with in vivo mouse cancer models.
