Our client is seeking to engage an EL1 Assistant Director, Financial Reporting on a non-ongoing contract for 12 months.

**The Role**:
The EL1 Assistant Director, Financial Reporting works with multiple internal stakeholders across the department and various external stakeholders. The Financial Reporting Team consists of three teams that allows for cross-skilling and various career opportunities.
We are looking for someone who has a tax background, but mostly GST and FBT. Public sector experience and a few years managing staff.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Undertaking month end accounting processes including CBMS submissions;
- Monitoring the financial statements inbox and responding to queries;
- Review / prepare balance sheet reconciliations;
- Prepare various financial statement notes and supporting work papers for audit;
- Promote and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
- Interrogate the Financial Management Information System (i.e. SAP) to answer financial questions (on request) from internal stakeholders;
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, including streamlining and simplifying policies and practices;
- Cross-skilling amongst the Financial Reporting team; and
- Support senior members of the Financial Reporting team.

**Qualifications and Education**:

- No specific qualification is needed. CPA/CA and/or tertiary qualification in accounting or finance is preferable.

**Capabilities**:

- Experience in accounting or finance area and a working knowledge and understanding of the Commonwealth financial framework including accrual accounting and the legislation that governs the Department’s financial operations, primarily the PGPA Act;
- Knowledge with SAP and TM1 or similar FMIS and reporting tools;
- Highly developed IT skills including intermediate to advanced Microsoft excel skills; and
- Manage relationships with stakeholders to achieve work area and agency goals.

**Eligibility**:

- Citizenship: Please note, under section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency delegate has agreed, in writing.
