**Purpose of the role**

The Careers Advisor works in a dynamic and student centred environment within our Lifework
Centre, where young people are given individual assistance to develop appropriate secondary
school programs and appropriate future learning/employment strategies. The Careers Advisor
provides the best possible care for each student in alignment with the College’s Strategic
Directions and Values.

**Major Duties**

SEAS closing date
- Manage final Year 12 Assembly in Week 1 of Term 4, where alumni advise current Year 12

students on tips and strategies for making a positive transition to University

applicants, etc
- Ensure BNLLEN School Leavers Booklet is delivered and are given to Senior School Office to be

added to Year 12 Graduation pack

appointments with Apprenticeship Centres, Disability Employment Services, etc- advising/reminding of any information sessions, etc.- passed their SWL in time for final results- Careers counselling of Year 12 students as requested before, during and after their final
- exams- Assist with work experience queries and paperwork as requested
- Attend PD as required
- Attend Celebration Night (if required)
- Liaise with Head of Year 9 regarding participation in RIJI mock job interviews in first few
- weeks of Term 4 and attend interviews if possible- As member of Student Support Services team, attend fortnightly Referral meetings for Years
- 9/10 and Years 11/12- Add accurate, relevant notes to Synergetic
- Attend all Whole School staff meetings and all Senior Section meetings, plus Staff Briefing
- each Monday at recess- Attend Parent/Teacher evening if running in Term 4
- Prepare LifeWork material for 2023 school magazine “Forum” if requested
- Newsletter or via appropriate faculty staff- Liaising with teachers regarding students of concern and assist/advocate for solutions as
- required- Regularly entering career related articles to school newsletter
- Attend Staff Days once students finish Term 4 classes
- Follow up new students to obtain Morrisby results or arrange for them to do the Morrisby Test
- once at school in LWC if have not previously done it- Obtain lists from various tertiary institutions of all students who successfully applied for an
- Early Offer course and received a conditional offer- Provide data to Senior School Office as requested
- Check and update school’s Career Tools website as needed
- Maintain LifeWork Centre resources and information

**After Term 4 ends and until school closes for 2023**:

- list of students who will need to change their preferences in order to receive an offer.- Upon release of results to students, conduct careers counselling, including Change of- Upon release of December round tertiary offers, conduct careers counselling, including Change
- of Preference counselling, until close of 2023 VTAC Change of Preference period- Prepare Year 12 Destinations report based on December offer round data and send to Principal

and key staff.

**Experience/Pre-requisites**
- Teaching qualification is desirable but not essential
- A post-graduate qualification in careers counselling
- Adheres to the Career Counsellor Code of Ethics and Professional Standards
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
- Strong knowledge of tertiary education options and employment trends
- Working knowledge of vocational education
