We are seeking to appoint a proactive and highly motivated person for a 12 month full-time contract position based in Blackburn (Victoria). As a Safeguarding Investigator your primary responsibility is to undertake investigations into allegations of abuse and harm to children and young people by TSA Personnel. You will also report findings from Safeguarding Audits and other key elements of the Safeguarding Framework.

Reporting to the Manager Safeguarding Investigations and Audit, you will be an integral member of a highly effective and established Quality and Safeguarding team ensuring The Salvation Army adopts child safe strategies and acts to promote a culture of safety and well-being for children and young people.

The key responsibilities of the role include:

- Conduct objective investigations into allegations of abuse toward children and young people by employees and volunteers including: research and review evidence from internal and external sources, organise and conduct interviews of children and young people, witnesses and alleged persons, document investigation process, evidence, actions and outcomes
- Manage internal and external reporting obligations including reporting to senior leaders, police reports, reportable conduct, reports to statutory child protection
- Provide updates to senior leaders regarding the status of investigations as required and relevant.
- Oversight external investigations and gather relevant information by liaising with Officer Personnel, Legal and/or Centre for Restoration team to develop investigator brief for external investigators
- Undertake safeguarding risk assessments post investigations
- Undertake Safeguarding audits as required
- Report on Safeguarding audit outcomes and other key parts of the TSAs Safeguarding Framework as necessary.

About You

To be successful in this role you will maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality and will have;

Key Capabilities:

- Proven experience in conducting investigations involving children, young people and vulnerable people
- Proven experience in conducting workplace investigations
- Understanding of the dynamics associated with abuse and neglect of children, young people and vulnerable adults
- Understanding of the dynamics and risks associated with sexual abuse in institutional contexts
- Degree in Social Work or similar tertiary qualification
- Certificate VI in Government Investigations
- Formal training and/or Qualifications in Investigations.

Requirements of the role:

- A national police record check is required
- A Working with Children Check
- Compulsory Code of Conduct, WHS and Bullying and Harassment training modules are completed and up to date.
