Teach Queensland Ambassador
7 months ago
**Your opportunity**: The best Ambassadors for the teaching profession are those that that live and breathe it every day, which is why we are establishing a volunteer network of passionate and experienced Queensland state school teachers and leaders from across the state, to work with us to promote teaching as a great career choice and Queensland state schools as the place to teach.
We are looking for great story tellers, whose teaching career has seen them live and work in different state school communities across the state, and/or who have had undertaken different pathways to get to where they are now, including changing careers.
As volunteer Teach Queensland Ambassadors, you will have the opportunity to:
- Share your professional and personal experiences, learnings and opportunities with aspiring, preservice, beginning and experienced teachers;
- engage with preservice teachers considering their employment options and undertaking professional experience in Queensland state schools;
- inspire secondary students to consider teaching as a career option;
- represent the Department of Education at a range of career and employment events and information sessions, locally, state-wide, online and on occasions interstate;
- attend the annual Teach Queensland and Teach Rural Career Fairs;
- contribute to a range of teacher attraction initiatives, including the Teach Queensland Live Chats, subscriber updates, blog articles and social media content, and
- undertake professional development to enhance your presentation and storytelling skills.
**Your Availability**: We are establishing a network of approximately 30 state school teachers and school leaders across Queensland to act as Teach Queensland Ambassadors that we can draw upon as needed across the year. The network will include representatives of different school settings, learning phases and curriculum areas.
In addition to the Teach Queensland led events and activities across the year, we receive a large number of requests to participate in higher education/university career fairs and events, employment information and panel sessions, and school-based career events.
The number of activities each Ambassador will participate in across the year will differ depending on factors such as availability, type of activities and target audiences.
We will work with you to understand your availability and flexibility to be released from your school when planning our representation at events. We will prioritise Ambassador participation in events that are local to limit disruption to your students and school.
Ambassadors (and their schools) will be provided with access to TRS to support their release as required. Any costs associated with travel to attend Ambassador activities will be funded by the Teach Queensland team.We generally try to avoid committing to requests for participation in events and activities occurring during school holidays and weekends, however this may be required occasionally across the year.
**Your Eligibility**: To be eligible to volunteer for the Teach Queensland Ambassador network, you must meet the following requirements:
- Employed permanently as a teacher or school leader in a Queensland state school for at least three years;
- Have taught in at least two different school communities. Experience in rural, remote and regional communities will be highly regarded;
- Are confident speaking with large and small groups of aspiring, preservice, beginning and experienced teachers; and
- Have the support of your line manager/supervisor and/or school leader.
**Express an Interest**: To express an interest in being part of our Teach Queensland Ambassador network please provide:
- a short submission about why you are interested in being part of the Teach Queensland Ambassador network, your pathway into teaching and your teaching experiences in state school settings - creativity encouraged;
- respones to the questionnaire as part of the online expression of interest process, this includes:
- details of any employment prior to becoming a teacher, experience in other school sectors or states and any activities/responsibilities that are relevant to your teaching journey; and
