**About the role**:
The incumbent is the key and active contributor for Melbourne Polytechnic’s government designated Skills
and Jobs Centre (SJC) team to provide high quality impartial assistance and support to Retrenched Workers,
Disengaged Youth, Unemployed, Apprentices and CALD students and clients.

As Career and Pathways Advisor, you will guide clients and students through their education and career
journey by providing a superior customer experience in the Skills and Jobs Centre. You will liaise with
prospective and existing VE students, employers, apprentices, unemployed and transitioning workers. Your
role will include providing one-on-one and group career and education sessions.

The position requires collaboration with the broader Student Acquisition Team to increase pathway
opportunities for prospective students that have participated in SJC programs, this also includes working at
events and secondary school focus programs.

Each SJC is to operate under the following VSA 5 key Service Delivery Framework Guidelines:

- Operate in line with government priorities and triage clients into appropriate government initiatives
- Provide training and course advice and referrals
- Deliver qualified career counselling
- Coordinate with and refer participants to appropriate community service and job readiness service providers
- Work with local industry and employers

**Duties**:

- Provide individual and/or group careersinformation and supportservices to students and clients.
- Provide course information and pathway services across a range of institutions.Facilitating both 1-on-1 and
group appointments, providing course information and support from enquiry through to enrolment
- Review job seeker skills base and make recommendations regarding their employment pathway or upskilling options.
- Provide career information and support services for individual and groups, which result in job seekers
making informed training and employment decisions.
- Participate and assist in the development of career events, workshops and programs to relevant groups
and increase the profile of the SJC.
- Participate, plan, organise, and deliver innovative careers events, workshops and programs.
- Maintain quality partnerships with relevant Melbourne Polytechnic stakeholders, industries and other
TAFE providers.

**Skills and experience required**:

- Relevant qualification in Career Development or 3+ years’ experience in a related role.
- Knowledge of career development theory and practice, with experience in individual careers
development.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the labor market trends, TAFE and Community Services sectors.
- High level interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with wide range of customers from a range of cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and continuous improvement, to proactively drive creative
and innovative solutions within a customer service content.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and adapt to strategic priorities in order to establish new ways of
working and create a culture of continuous improvement. Demonstrated diagnostic, analytical and
problem-solving skills, with the proven ability to exercise autonomous judgement.
