The primary role of a Disability Support Worker is to provide assistance to individuals with physical and/ or psychosocial disabilities. They help disabled individuals perform basic hygiene tasks, such as bathing and brushing teeth, in addition to daily living tasks such as cooking, cleaning and doing laundry.

Disability Support Workers are expected to assisting people to perform important daily activities such as:

- Facilitating daily personal hygiene and dressing tasks (e.g showering etc)
- Performing home based tasks such as food preparation and housework
- Depending on the participants needs, workers will be expected to provide support with food preparation (or prepare the food if the participant is unable to do so)
- Maintain a clean environment - e.g vacuuming, cleaning the dishes etc
- Undertaking tasks outside the home such as shopping
- Ensuring a varied program of social activities according to the participants NDIS Plan and needs.
- Be available to assist with transporting participants to and from their appointments
- Provide emotional support and friendship whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
