The key focus of this position is to perform Council’s mechanical sweeping program is to
maintain the Blue Mountains streets and town centres to address road asset, storm water
run-off, aesthetic, and water quality issues.

The Street Sweeper Operator will primarily be responsible for the operation and general
maintenance of Council's Street Sweeping plant in accordance with operating procedures
and service delivery requirements.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Main duties are to operate the mechanical road suction sweeper truck, operate other

plant and equipment and laboring duties as required.
- Provide service delivery for efficient cleaning of designated streets, town centres,

drainage pits, gross pollutant traps, car parks and parks through programs and service
requests.
- Collect and electronically record information using Council’s information services.
- Sweep roads, parking areas and car parks using a mechanical street sweeper.
- Conduct prestart checks and perform routine maintenance on mechanical street

sweeper on a daily basis in accordance with approved prestart check list.
- Undertake quality general maintenance and minor repairs on the mechanical street

sweeper daily.
- Conduct daily maintenance checks and document using the council’s electronic

platform.
- Identify and report necessary part replacements and major faults on the mechanical

street sweeper to Mechanical Services
- Ensure the level of supplies for hard wearing parts including broom brushes and safety

equipment, gloves, first aid kit are ordered in advance.
- Ensure that the mechanical street sweeper is thoroughly cleaned at the completion of

each shift including vehicle inspection.
- Remove concrete and steel lids and clean and educt side entry pits.
- Assist with cleaning up of spills e.g. oils, fuel, concrete.
- Train employees in street sweeper operations as required.
- Participate in job rotation and multiskilling where required.
- Respond to emergency service requests and customer service requests as directed

including after-hours call outs.
