**Job description**:

- ** $41.82 per hour + super**

Our client is looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join their Surveillance Department as a Surveillance Officer. The successful applicant will work in the National Border Surveillance and Vector Monitoring Program team.

**Responsibilities may include but are not limited to**:

- Conducting surveillance activities at the border, including working outside conducting field surveillance, setting and maintaining biosecurity monitoring or trapping programs.
- Contributing to the collection of accurate and up-to-date local surveillance data, including the use and maintenance of field surveillance devices and timely (up to date) completion of surveillance records.
- Conducting routine triage of field samples, and collecting, preparing and submitting samples to and liaising with diagnosticians to obtain accurate and timely pest identifications.
- Liaising with clients and other departmental programs to achieve departmental surveillance outcomes.
- Ensuring surveillance supplies are in stock, including supply management and procuring consumables to enable ongoing surveillance activities.
- Maintain regular communication with their Regional Vector Coordinator (RVC) and as required, seek and follow advice to deliver vector monitoring tasks to the required standard of the work instructions.
- Experience in Vector (mosquito) surveillance activities will be highly regarded. Experience in field surveillance and/or a relevant scientific field such as entomology, botany or plant pathology.
- Experience in planning, managing and carrying out pest surveys or surveillance activity and collecting and preparing samples for diagnostics.
- Experience with working in a laboratory, including rearing insects, and preparing insect specimens and using light microscopy for their identification.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake diagnostics for insects using light microscopy.
- Willingness and ability to work out of hours as required, including over weekends and on public holidays as required.
