We are seeking a capable and motivated Trainee Correctional Officer to support the team at Parklea Correctional Centre.

As a Trainee Correctional Officer at PCC, you will undergo a 10-week training program that will give you the tools and knowledge to ensure the safety, security, and good order of the Centre. It will help deliver services that enable inmates to improve their lives and reintegrate successfully into our communities. You will also commence your Certificate III in Correctional Practise with ongoing training and support to assist you in finishing this qualification within 12 months. This is an industry recognised standard in corrections.

**Some of the Trainee Correctional Officer responsibilities are to**:

- Observe, supervise, and assess inmate activities and behaviour in residential areas, prison industries, recreational areas and other locations, monitoring and responding to unsafe, non-compliant and at-risk behaviours to maximise safety and security and minimise incidents
- Complete all documentation, reporting and administrative duties in accordance with established policies and procedures, including immediate reporting of matters and incidents where required, clear and detailed shift close reporting, use of online system for inmate and intelligence data, and use of whiteboards and other communication tools in Centre areas
- Ensure inmates are processed, moved, and accommodated in a safe, secure, and timely manner
- Maintain accurate and proper information in various forms and reports
- Assist and facilitate with the intake, induction, and discharge of inmates from the facility
- Conduct daily headcounts
- Report incidents in line with reporting guidelines
- Perform additional operational duties as required to support and assist management and stakeholders to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all personnel on site
- Respond to inmate enquiries and complaints respectfully and in accordance with defined policies, procedures and timelines
- Promote workplace health and safety in the workplace in line with Company policies, procedures and standards
- Respond appropriately and effectively to events and incidents

**Skills & Experience**:
Ideally, we are seeking individuals who are:

- Strong communication skills both verbal and written
- Passionate about working within a team environment
- Able to prioritise tasks to ensure completion of outcomes

**Mandatory qualifications and requirements**:

- Must obtain appropriate security clearances from New South Wales Police and Correctional Services New South Wales
- Must meet the physical requirements of the role and pass a functional fitness and health assessment; due to the demands of the role, applicants who consume alcohol excessively, abuse prescription drugs or consume illicit substances are unsuitable
- Must obtain and maintain a First Aid accreditation in the form of a current Statement of Attainment for HLTAID003 Provide First Aid
