**Where you'll be working**
Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

Wollongong is located an hour’s drive south of Sydney on a narrow coastal strip bordered by the Royal National Park to the north, Lake Illawarra to the south, the Tasman Sea to the east and the Illawarra Escarpment to the west. **What you'll be doing**

The Advanced Trainee will provide clinical care to Neurology patients under the supervision of the Consultant Neurologist. The Advanced Trainee is a valued member of the Neurology team, and will have the opportunity to tailor the role according to training requirements and interest.
The ISLHD Neurology Department provides a broad General Neurology case mix including a strong comprehensive stroke service with ECR referral to Sydney, electrophysiology, EEG and Botox, and subspecialty-focused clinics. There is latitude to continue or initiate research and accredited post-core trainees will be supported to elect their focus, within their training needs and general service responsibility. Pre-core unaccredited trainees will be offered a General training experience incorporating particular interest.
The role incorporates participation in the afterhours acute stroke and general rosters. You will work in a substantial team of peers and supervisors including a Core Neurology Trainee, two BPTs, two RMOs, and five to six supportive Neurologists with a number of subspecialties represented, as well as senior vocational Nurses. Our Neurology unit is fully served by experienced and specialty-dedicated nurses, allied health, technical staff, Neurosurgery and Radiology. This position is based at Wollongong Hospital with the possibility of some work at other sites within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.

**Selection Criteria**
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Commitment to a career path in Neurology
- Commitment to ongoing medical education
- Understanding of and commitment to quality improvement
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team
- Completion of at least four postgraduate years and successful completion of the examination requirements of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, or equivalent, and be eligible to undertake subspecialty training in Neurology in Australia.
