**Position Name Roving Relief Teacher**

**Key Relationships **The **Roving Relief Teacher** reports to the School Logistics and Daily
Operations Manager in the first instance and then to the Heads of
Preparatory School and Senior School.

**_Position Objective: _**
Roving Relief Teachers are required to provide professional support of the ethos of the School, by managing
classes and students effectively; having a sound knowledge and understanding of the lesson and work
program expectations; promoting learning as something to be enjoyed and maximised for each student
throughout every lesson; fulfilling the teacher’s role in and out of class; maintaining discipline; and providing
a caring environment.

**_Key Responsibilities: _**

**1. Teaching and fulfilling the teacher’s role during their absence.**
- Fulfil the duties of a teacher at Westminster School.
- Teach the allocated timetable of classes.
- Provide quality education in support of the ethos of the School and the School Values, by managing

classes and stakeholders (students, parents/caregivers, staff) effectively.
- Develop an effective knowledge and understanding of the syllabus and work program expectations.
- Provide relief cover for absent Tutors during Roll Call, Pastoral Care time, House Meetings and

Chapel.
- Develop SEQTA expertise, accessing lessons and assessment materials in SEQTA.
- Promote learning as something to be enjoyed and maximised for each student throughout every

lesson.
- Develop positive professional relationships with students.
- Maintain good classroom order/practice and uphold student discipline/behavioural management

policies.
- Insist on acceptable standards of behaviour, including dress code, in students.
- Uphold the School’s high reputation and conservative expectations in and out of class and on and

off campus.

**2. Effective Classroom Practice.**
- Accept that there exist individual differences in ability, personality, need and learning styles in

students, and attempt to cater for these differences.
- Where possible offer students feedback on their academic performance and behaviour.
- Keep abreast of changes in content, methodology and assessment techniques in teaching areas and
- Incorporate the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
- Follow School policy in relation to academic matters, including the work programs, assignments,

and testing.

**3. Tasks when not required to teach.**
- Assist Curriculum Leaders:

- with authentic opportunities for student agency, such as signature experiences.
- complete marking and assessment as appropriate.
- assist with displays and assessment preparation.
- resource development.
- Assisting Heads of House, for example, following up absence.
- Assisting in Stretch, helping with 1-1 support.
- Assist with the organisation of off timetable days, competitions and carnivals.
- Data input and facilitation of report writing.
- Assist in Student Services.

**4. Other Responsibilities**
- Undertake recess and lunchtime supervision duties.
- Supervise lunchtime Study Support, Chapel and Assembly and detentions.
- Test and examination supervision.
- Attend School trips, including camps if required.
- Develop positive professional relationships with students and colleagues.
- Maintain professional competence and current knowledge in educational trends.
- Attend faculty meetings and staff meetings.
- Contribution to the co-curricular program of the School.
- Other responsibilities at the request of Principal.

**_Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience _**
- Relevant tertiary qualifications.
- High level of ICT skills, knowledge and effective incorporation into classroom practice.
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks and meet timelines in a busy role.
- High level of organisational, networking, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated use of initiative, with the ability to anticipate the needs of a School.
- A team player with the ability to engage and inspire.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- Demonstration of initiative, flexibility and discretion.
- Capacity to recognise and maintain confidentiality.
- Good public relation skills and a demonstrated background in positive liaison with students,

parents and colleagues.
