**St Mary's Catholic School, Bowen** is a co-educational primary school located in Bowen. **About the role**

**St Mary's Catholic School, Bowen **is seeking experienced and dedicated **Groundspeople and Cleaners**. **This role is a **Casual **position to provide relief support when required.

The Groundsperson/Cleaner under the direction of the Principal contributes to the effective and efficient operation and environment of the College by providing a high level of maintenance, upkeep and cleanliness to the facilities of the College. The Groundsperson/Cleaner will be required to assess repairs quickly to enable a maximum resolution to ensure safety at all times. The Groundsperson/Cleaner will work within a team to provide a clean, safe and pleasant environment for students and employees and create a physical environment that is conducive to learning and safe student movement.

The Groundsperson/Cleaner will work with limited supervision under the direction of the Principal.

**Key Accountabilities**

The Groundsperson/Cleaner will be expected to work within and adhere to Workplace Health and Safety guidelines and demonstrate the knowledge and ability to work in a team environment.

**_ Typical duties performed may include, but are not limited to:_**
- Maintaining a clean and safe learning and working environment for students, staff and visitors to the school in line with cleaning schedules and processes
- Operating and maintaining cleaning equipment including vacuum cleaners, polishers and blowers ensuring a commitment to safe operating procedures
- Sweeping, mopping and buffing tiled floors
- Vacuuming carpets, mats and other floor surfaces
- Dusting desks, tables, shelves and ledges
- Collecting litter, emptying and washing rubbish bins
- Removing graffiti from desks, chairs and walls
- Cleaning windows, fans, fridges, stoves, toilets, sinks and basins
- Sweeping, blowing and hosing/pressure cleaning paved areas
- Locking up rooms including windows, and doors and turning off lights.

**_Cleaner using specialised equipment:_**
- Ordering supplies and receiving deliveries and/or being given the responsibility for the distribution and maintenance of toilets and other requisites and cleaning materials in buildings/ establishments
- Carpet cleaning - operating equipment used in any or all of the following methods - powder systems or liquid shampoo systems or hot water injection and extraction systems (commonly called "steam cleaning")
- Operating steam cleaning and pressure washing equipment on the exterior of buildings.

**_Other duties include:_**
- Attend regular meetings with the Principal for allocation of tasks and willing to rotate duty roster
- Maintain the lawn, trim trees overhanging infrastructure, hedging, blowing down and outdoor vacuuming
- Assist with constant upkeep and upgrading of College grounds and gardens, including fertilising, poisoning, landscaping and minor irrigation checks and repairs as required
- Bin runs, rubbish removal, tilling sandpits and pressure cleaning
- Assist with setting up College functions and displays
- Carry out minor repairs to the College property and equipment, including:

- Assist with marking playing fields
- Routine maintenance and cleaning of machinery and sheds, including external cleaning
- Assist with general maintenance, upkeep and cleaning duties as reasonably requested.

**_General expectations:_**
- Adhering to cleaning protocols and schedules with a commitment to safe cleaning processes including the correct use of cleaning products and chemicals
- Liaising with the Principal to report any security, safety, or damage concerns to eliminate or minimise hazards.
- Other related duties as reasonably requested by the Grounds Supervisor and Facilities Manager.

**About you**

**Experience**
- Demonstrated experience in a cleaning/grounds/services/operational role or similar
- Understanding and commitment to Workplace Health and Safety legislation and professional regulations to reduce the risk of harm to self and others relative to the role of a cleaner
- Ability to follow safety precautions that may involve the use of protective equipment where the work environment involves exposure
