Warrondi Engage & Link (WEL) Initiative is a holistic non-residential day program offered by The Salvation Army, Adelaide AOD (alcohol and other drugs) Services based in the Adelaide CBD. The Warrondi Engage & Link Initiative aims to engage with Indigenous participants and provide them with effective and culturally appropriate interventions, counselling, casework, referral, education groups and day program activities.

About the role

We are currently seeking a values-driven and proactive Counsellor at our Adelaide AOD Services located in the CBD. This is a fixed-term, part time position offering 30.4 hours per week, with the possibility of flexibility around days and times worked. The role is contracted for 12 months, with the possibility of extension.

Your role includes counselling, case work, facilitation of education groups and activities. You will develop some case plans when relevant and provide advocacy and referral to external service providers when appropriate. You will be flexible in terms of service delivery, recognising the client’s individual needs. You will maintain accurate records and participate in case discussions and staff team meetings.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS award, level 5.

You will successfully- Establish rapport and working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to conduct culturally sensitive, accurate and extensive initial first point of contact assessments.- Consistently provide culturally sensitive, professional casework, counselling, and reviews.- Contribute to evidence-based practice.- Provide assertive, timely, responsive engagement, co-ordination, advocacy and initial case management in line with TSA case management models and standards of practice and Information Sharing Guidelines.- Assess and respond appropriately to a variety of situations involving risk, including but not limited to mental health and suicide risks.- Maintain accurate, up to date client records and data for all clients in accordance with TSA standards and procedures within TSA’s identified electronic database.- Impart knowledge of strengths based and trauma informed care.

You will have
- A recognised tertiary Health Qualification / Diploma in Community Health Services appropriate field or relevant experience
- Competent level of casework and counselling skills experience within current practice standards
- A sound understanding of drug and alcohol and homelessness issues in particular
- Demonstrated understanding of the history and effects of the forcible removal of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children and a comprehensive understanding of the social and emotional well-being issues affecting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people
- Be able to demonstrate your ability to work within the parameters of a case management model
- Effective time management skills
- Competent level of data collection skills and computer skills relevant to the position
- Proficient level of written and oral communication particularly the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander people
- CPR competence or current First Aid Certificate
- Current SA Driver’s License
