Role Description
Science Teacher
**Reports to**: Head of Science
**Hours/Status**:Full-time
The Science Department at Meriden oversees the teaching of Science in the School, including the senior
disciplines of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Science Extension, and Junior Science to Years 7-10.
**Professional Responsibilities**
- planning, preparing and delivering lessons to a range of classes
- designing a range of assessment tasks and marking guidelines and outcomes
- marking work, giving appropriate feedback and maintaining records of pupils' progress and development
curriculum materials
- assisting in assessing changing curricular needs
- selecting and using a range of different learning resources and equipment
- preparing pupils for qualifications including external examinations and competitions
- ensuring academic reports are written in accordance with Meriden report guidelines and style rules
measures in cases of misbehaviour
- participating in and organising extracurricular activities such as excursions
- participating in departmental meetings, parents' evenings and whole school training events
- undergoing regular observations and participating in regular in-service training as part of continuing
professional development
- working with the Head of Department and senior staff to ensure that all School policies and procedures are
adhered to
realised
- meeting professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines and honouring
schedules
- providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfil their potential for intellectual,
emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth
- organising and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in
accordance with Meriden School policies
- undertaking pastoral duties, such as taking on the role of form tutor, and supporting pupils on an individual
basis through academic or personal difficulties
- undertaking such other duties as may be required by the Head of Department or the Principal.
**Essential Attributes**
- ability to teach junior science as well as forensic science
- the ability to communicate and motivate students via a variety of teaching methods
- clear and effective oral and written communication skills
- excellent teaching and learning strategies, promoting an environment of active and purposeful learning
- relationships with students marked by mutual respect and professionalism
- effective organisation and time management skills and the ability to work independently with little direct
supervision
- excellent IT skills
- the ability to work as part of a team

**Qualifications and Experience**
- Tertiary qualified
- At least two years (2yrs+) or more teaching experience

- positively contributes to and works as an effective team member
- possesses a broad and deep understanding of current educational issues, curriculum development, and
pedagogical theory
- represents the School proudly and appropriately, with high standards of speech and attire
- displays clear and effective written and oral communication skills
- demonstrates proficient ICT skills and expertise
- a willingness to embrace and enhance the Christian ethos and practice of Meriden, as an independent
Anglican School for girls
- loyal to the Principal and publicly supportive of her decisions.
