**About the role**

Mater Health has an exciting opportunity for a** Staff Specialist** to join the Gastroenterology team to cover an existing schedule.

This is a part-time role, working 12 hours per week from 10/04/2023 to 10/04/2024.

This role is integral to contribute to the subspecialty of interventional endoscopy and general clinical gastroenterology workload, as well as endoscopy service of the unit in order to deliver high quality specialist gastroenterology and interventional endoscopy services for both inpatient and outpatient care at the Mater Brisbane campus.

You will provide specialist interventional endoscopy and general gastroenterology skills working in a cohesive, supportive and engaged team of specialist clinicians responsible for the provision of gastroenterology and hepatology services to inpatients and outpatients at Mater Hospital Brisbane.

**What you’ll be doing**

Responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):

- Participating in the gastroenterology and endoscopy work-load including liaising with hepatopancreatobiliary, colorectal and upper GI surgical colleagues, inpatient consultation, administrative duties including referral triage, attending outpatient clinics and multi-disciplinary meetings with a strong primary focus of the role in supporting the interventional endoscopy service.
- Providing an inpatient consultation and outpatient clinic-based gastroenterology service.
- Mentoring of junior doctors and other clinical professionals and supporting undergraduate and post-graduate training as well as research.
- Assisting with education, supervision and training of health professionals.
- Collaborating with and providing expert advice to the Director of Gastroenterology.
- Monitoring and reviewing service improvements to Mater’s Gastroenterology services together with the lead specialist for endoscopy services.
- Working with the administrative, nursing and allied health teams to provide an integrated service

Role specific tasks will include:

- Attend relevant Orientation Programs.
- Maintain professional standards through programmes, workshops, seminars and conferences run by recognised organisations (FACEM MOPS Programme).
- Comply with expected standards in documentation.
- Report clinical incidents and adverse events.
- Liaise with other health care professionals involved in patient care.
- Participate in the multi-disciplinary team meetings of the department, especially the HPB MDT on a Wednesday morning from 07:30-09:00.
- Assist, teach and participate in technical procedures within the Department.
- Ability to prioritise clinical care - maximising patient safety and maintaining patient flow.
- Represent the Department at meetings and workshops as directed by Director.
- Act to contain spread of infection and comply with Hospital infection control guidelines.
- Comply with human resource management issues including workplace health and safety, equal employment opportunity and anti-discrimination as applied in the working environment.

You will also attend multi-disciplinary team meetings, participate in ward service (consults), on call commitments and professional development activities including teaching and taking part in the departmental academic and professional development activities.

**About you**
- Be a Consultant Gastroenterologist with current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia and fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP)
- Have CCRTGE recognition of training for adult upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, ERCP and EUS.
- Have experience in endoluminal stenting, PEG / PEJ and nasojejunal tube placement, managing endoscopic emergencies including management of gastrointestinal bleeding, endoscopic mucosal resection of large mucosal GI tract lesions, EUS FNA/FNB for diagnosis of neoplasia, interventional ERCP, and supporting public interventional work on the Mater Brisbane campus.
- Have the ability to manage complex gastroenterological and interventional endoscopy problems integrating knowledge, clinical skills and compassion and doing so in conjunction with surgeons, oncologists and gastroenterology colleagues.
