CK Recruitment are currently seeking a Bushland Field Officer to undertake work associated with the conservation and maintenance of Council’s Natural Environment and Bushland.
In particular this role will be working on Council’s bush regeneration and pest species programs. You may also be required to participate in hazard reduction burning activities
Working on an ongoing casual basis you will be on a 9 day fortnight with potential for a view to permanent.
**Operational Outputs**:
- Participate in an constructive manner in the rotation to deliver Council’s approved bush regeneration and pest species operational works program by completing tasks including, but not limited to:
- Bush regeneration
- Weed mapping
- Tree planting
- Weed control
- Tree removal
- Nursery work
- Seed collection
- Feral animal control
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment in accordance with manufactures specifications for the purpose of implementing the above activities.
- Have a basic understanding of Council’s organisational structure
- Maintain records as required to provide meaningful and accurate information including, but not limited to
- Plant utilisation and maintenance
- Time sheets
- Identify plants by their common names of the Ku-ring-gai Local Government area
- The nominated most common native plants
- Noxious weeds
- Nuisance and urban environmental weeds
- Report any faults and abnormal wear and tear of equipment to the team leader as it occurs to enable appropriate maintenance to be completed
- Participate when required in a constructive manner as a crew member in hazard reduction activities consistent with the approved Fuel Management Program
- Demonstrate an understanding of fire behavior and the various methods of hazard reduction
- Demonstrate an understanding and follow fire-ground communication procedures consistent with the Incident Control Systems
- Maintain familiarity with fire fighting equipment and its operation
- Ability to interpret burn plans and maps
- Willingness to work with other organisations
- Where required undertake other bushland operational works including, but not limited to bush fire break, walking track and fire trail construction and maintenance and bushland educational activities.
**Other requirements**:
- Adhere to hours of work & break times in accordance with issued standards and procedures, unless otherwise approved by Supervisor/Manager.
- Conduct a daily check of all tools & equipment for use and transported on the vehicle & report to Supervisor all incidents involving misplaced, damaged or non performing plant & equipment. Ensure tools and equipment are stored in correct locations.
- Clean & tidy interior and exterior of vehicles fortnightly and report each event to supervisor : Interior - Vacuum surfaces, wipe dust/dirt from surfaces ; Exterior - hand wash paint and windows, and rinse off with high pressure hose
- Complete daily sheets as required - Risk Assessments, Traffic Plans, Work Orders
- Operate and maintain plant and equipment in accordance with manufacturers specifications and Standard Operating Procedures approved in regard to Councils Risk Assessments for the purpose of implementing the above activities
- Carry out fortnightly maintenance on allocated small plant and vehicles and report any faults and abnormal wear and tear of equipment to the team leader as it occurs to enable appropriate maintenance to be completed.
**Required Qualifications/Certificates/Experience**:
- Demonstrated experience in Bush Regeneration
- WHS White card
- Current Chainsaw Ticket (Desired)
- Advanced plant identification skills
- Experience using brush cutters
- MR Truck licence (Desired)
- Physically fit - plenty of manual work involved
- C Class licence minimum
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in natural area and Bushland Maintenance
