The City of Mandurah Governance Services team is seeking a suitably qualified, motivated and experienced individual who has extensive knowledge of drafting local laws, delegations, policy, review of grants and funding agreements and providing best practice advice in a local, state or federal government setting. Working as part of a small and efficient team, the Governance Legal Specialist will be responsible for providing expert advice and support in relation to legal, governance and policy development to ensure that the City's governance activities are carried out efficiently, effectively and in compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

We are in the market for an experienced Governance Legal Specialist who will be responsible for the provision of governance advice with respect to compliance with governance responsibilities to ensure organisational transparency, accountability and compliance with legislation. You will support the Coordinator Legal Governance in the provision of governance advice and support in the development and interpretation of legal documentation, agreements and contracts and the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of governance policies, and procedures. You will actively participate in the overall development and improvement of activities within a close-knit Governance Services team to support a high performing, harmonious and supportive team culture.

To be successful in this role you will possess the following qualifications and experience. Additional information in relation to skills required can be read in the position description:

- A Bachelor of Laws degree.
- Minimum of three years' experience in a similar role.
- Previous experience of working in a government department/organisation.
- Demonstrated experience in statutory and legislative compliance and interpretation.
- Extensive experience in the provision of legal advice within a public sector environment, particularly in the areas of government and contract law.
- Extensive skills in problem solving complex legal/policy matters and considering organisation impact and risks in the decision-making process.
- Demonstrated strong understanding of legal principles, concepts and language, including highly developed legal knowledge and governance principles that will influence will key organisational decisions.
- Demonstrated experience in policy analysis, development and evaluation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

**The finer details**

This fixed term part time contract until 30 June 2025 (22.8 hours per week) attracts a competitive Level 8 annual remuneration of $109,098 - $115,568 (pro-rata) plus superannuation dependent on qualifications and experience and a wide range of benefits to reward your contribution.
