**About the Opportunity**:
Strathfield Council is seeking a dedicated and capable Apprentice Horticulturalist to join our team of open spaces and parks workers.

This role provides the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary team to assist with the day to day maintenance and presentation of some of Strathfield’s high profile parks and reserves and where you can learn on the job with qualified horticulturists to mentor you and to gain a trade qualification.

The role entails:

- Completing horticultural maintenance program components/requests associated with a high level of service delivery;
- Maintaining fleet, plant and tools to support operational activities;
- Assisting the Parks Team Leaders with the completion of reasonably requested duties.

**About You**:

- Eligible to enrol or currently enrolled in a Certificate III/IV in Parks & Gardens/ Horticulture or related course.
- School Certificate or equivalent.
- Hold a current NSW Class C, P1 or P2 Driver's licence or obtain a NSW Class C, P1 or P2 Driver's licence within 12 months of starting date.
- General Safety (White Card) Induction Certificate **(DESIRABLE)**:

- Chemical (AQF 2 or 3) User’s Certificate **(DESIRABLE)**:

- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
- Enthusiasm and commitment to undertaking the apprenticeship including both on and off the job training.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively either alone or in a team.
- Ability to provide a high standard of customer service to internal and external customers
- Strong work ethic and a commitment to high standards of service delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems, show initiative and “think outside the square”
- Demonstrated ability to participate effectively in work teams and with individuals.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving council’s values, WHS procedures and organisational behaviours
- Experience in green keeping or horticulture field **(DESIRABLE)**:

- You will enjoy working outside in the fresh air amongst astonishing open spaces.
- You will feel a sense of reward from completing tasks that ensures our parks and open spaces are well-maintained for our communities’ appreciation.

**S**alary and Conditions**:
The salary range for this position is $44,236.40 to $50,102.00 per annum, dependent upon skills and experience plus 10.5% Super, dependent upon the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
