**Role**:
The assistant principal reports directly to the principal.

Assistant principals have a primary responsibility for the management of significant areas or functions within the school to ensure the effective development, provision and evaluation of the school's education program. In exercising the responsibility, assistant principals will have the authority to make all significant decisions relating to the program, budget and staff relating to their area of designated responsibility within the framework of the school's strategic plan, policies and budget. Assistant principals will contribute to the overall management of the school through involvement in policy formulation and decision making.

The management of significant school program or functional areas in schools involve assistant principals in the analysis of the needs of students and the translation of state educational policy and frameworks into appropriate education programs to meet the needs of all students.

Typically assistant principals will be responsible for the effective use of the teaching staff and program budget of a defined area of the school's operation and for the oversight and leadership of the educational programs provided utilising these resources.

**Responsibilities**:
This role will specifically have responsibility as the Director of Learning.

The duties will include, but is not limited to:
Leading and supporting the relevant leaders and staff in the school, whilst having final accountability for:
**Curriculum and Pedagogy**
- Lead and develop high performing teams to support and promote excellence in teaching and learning.
- Lead the implementation of; instructional models, curriculum plans, assessment, reporting and shared pedagogical approaches with relevant leaders within the school.
- Provide vision and leadership in the development of a curriculum and pedagogy that meets the school philosophy
- Promote a curriculum that actively supports the development of every student in the community
- Lead a culture of collaboration and collective responsibility to develop effective and consistent teaching practices and to improve student achievement.
- Oversee the production of all curriculum and program handbooks and publications.
- Ensure that the College curriculum (Victorian Curriculum, VCE, VM and VET) is documented and delivered in a manner consistent with DET policy and regulatory requirements and standards.

- Successful implementation of the PLC program with a sustained focus on meeting the schools goals in the EMS
