Grants Services Branch is a dynamic, exciting and highly collaborative team working closely with stakeholders across the NIAA to provide expert advice and access to information and streamlined grants processes. We drive a range of performance reporting, analysis, and review functions to research, evaluate and ensure compliance across the grant lifecycle. Our work consists of managing grant design strategies, developing Grant Opportunity Guidelines (GOGs), and grants administration policies and frameworks. We also manage the processing and assessment of grant applications leading to improved outcomes for First Nation's people and organisations.

Grants Services Officers & Senior Grants Services Officers contribute to business improvement strategies, seeking to identify best practice and reduce risk. Our people coach, share and enable others through their expertise and technical knowledge and offer constructive feedback on how processes and tasks should be performed or could be improved. Additionally, they promote a healthy and safe workplace environment, and model ethical behaviour in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values.

APS 5 Grant Services Officers are responsible for:

  • supporting development of grant design and Grant Opportunity Guidelines (GOGs)
  • processing of grant applications
  • support and assurance of grant funding decision-making
  • grants risk and assurance processes, including Organisational Risk Profiles (ORPs) and acquittals
  • administering grant processes and advice
  • support to the Grants Front Door.

APS 6 Senior Grant Services Officers are responsible for:

  • managing the processing and assessment of grant applications
  • managing First Nations organisation funding policy
  • grants administration policies and frameworks
  • report on grants risk and assurance processes, including Organisational Risk Profiles (ORPs), acquittals, and site visits
  • prepare policy advice on complex grant administration matters
  • supervising staff and representing the branch in relevant fora.

Please note: This recruitment process will be used to fill several current and future vacancies across the Grants Services Branch.

Our Ideal Candidate

We are seeking motivated and experienced individuals to join our outcome-focused teams. The role requires an understanding of financial concepts and the ability to use online data management systems. Our ideal candidates are passionate about better understanding the key issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Candidates should exhibit sound judgement and professionalism and have the capacity to work flexibly and responsively to achieve results.

To fill these roles, we are looking for APS 5 Grant Services Officers who can demonstrate the following competencies:

  • demonstrated analytical, research and problem-solving skills
  • ability to engage effectively with internal (Regional Offices, Program and Policy Areas) stakeholders
  • ability to identify potential or emerging opportunities, risks or issues, and respond quickly to competing priorities as they emerge; and
  • demonstrated flexibility and good judgement.

In addition to the above, APS 6 Senior Grant Services Officers will demonstrate the following:

  • ability to monitor and analyse data, performance, or financial reports
  • capacity to deliver complex, but accurate and practical advice in an easy-to-understand manner
  • ability to provide expert advice and recommendations which comply with relevant legislation and policy frameworks
  • ability to assess and resolve complex and sensitive issues that impact programs or agreements, and develop creative solutions in partnership with Regional Office delivery teams and the relevant policy and program areas
  • ability to provide constructive management to staff with a focus on capability development, team building and talent management.
