Legal Aid NSW helps people with their legal problems. We can help people with most areas criminal law, family law and every day civil law legal issues. We give legal advice, help at court and do family dispute resolution. We can do this over the telephone or at one of our 28 offices.
About The Role
The Assistant Work Health and Safety Officer plays a key role in supporting the delivery of WHS and Injury Management initiatives across the Agency. This position contributes to a safe and mentally healthy workplace by coordinating safety health and wellbeing related activities / initiatives, supporting the functions of the Safety Health and Wellbeing team, and providing practical WHS advice to staff.
You will assist in incident response, ensuring employees are aware of available support services, and help promote a positive safety culture through regular engagement with key stakeholder groups. The role also involves contributing to WHS reporting and supporting the implementation of strategies to manage workplace risks.

About You
You are a motivated and detail-oriented professional with a genuine commitment to workplace health, safety, and wellbeing. With strong organisational skills, you excel at managing competing priorities, meeting deadlines, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
You bring a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement, confidently supporting managers and staff across diverse divisions with practical WHS and Injury Management advice. Your ability to navigate sensitive matters, coordinate support services, and communicate effectively with internal and external partners including SafeWork NSW, icare, insurers, and other government agencies sets you apart.
You're proactive in identifying opportunities to enhance WHS programs, and comfortable working with data to inform reporting and continuous improvement. Above all, you're passionate about fostering a safe, inclusive, and mentally healthy workplace culture.

The essential requirements for this role- Possess relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in Human Resources
- be willing to undertake Criminal Record Check
- hold Australian or NZ citizenship, Australian Permanent Residency (for ongoing vacancies) or a valid visa to work in Australia (for temporary vacancies)
- live in NSW or willing to relocate to NSW
