What You'll Be Doing

The Clinical Coder is responsible for the accurate and timely coding of inpatient episodes of care using ICD-10-AM classification, ensuring alignment with the Australian Coding Standards and SWSLHD policies. Your work supports safe, high-quality, and personalised care and contributes to health funding mechanisms and informed clinical and management decision-making. You will maintain ethical coding practice and participate in quality activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse clinical documentation and abstract relevant clinical and demographic data.
  • Assign codes using the ICD-10-AM classification system and Solventum Codefinder.
  • Maintain coding accuracy and output in line with NSW Ministry of Health timeframes.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement activities.
  • Stay up-to-date with coding standards, policies, and continuous education.
What We're Looking For
  • Previous or current work experience in clinical coding preferred or a strong aptitude and willingness to be trained as an entry-level coder.
  • Strong understanding of anatomy, disease processes, and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of DRGs, Casemix, and episode funding applications.
  • High attention to detail, excellent time management, and ability to meet throughput targets.
  • Commitment to ethical coding and quality documentation practices.
