Join CSIRO's Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team as our new HSE Advisor. Our team partners with all levels of the organisation to enhance personal responsibility for safety. We are a future-focussed team that delivers innovative HSE programs to improve CSIRO's HSE culture.

As our new HSE Advisor, you will deliver HSE services to our Darwin site and regionally, across the Northern Territory (NT) and Far North Queensland (FNQ). You will provide technical and practical support to research staff, affiliates, leadership teams and a range of other stakeholders, while collaborating with the broader, nation-wide HSE team. You'll drive continual safety improvements and be provided opportunities for leadership development, managing projects and shaping the future of CSIRO's HSE programs.

Please note, this role would require presence and additional travel to sites in the NT and FNQ as required.

Your duties will include:
  • Supporting the implementation of CSIRO's HSE Plan by planning and delivering key HSE activities and initiatives, ensuring consistency across the CSIRO sites.
  • Contributing to HSE Plan projects and positively challenging the status quo to drive continual HSE improvement across the organisation.
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with site work groups, understanding their unique HSE needs, and providing recommendations to guide management decisions.
  • Developing and reviewing policies, procedures and systems and offering solutions to challenging HSE issues.
  • Providing hands on HSE support to operational staff and liaising with the HSE Specialist when more specialist HSE support is needed.
  • Coaching and educating staff by sharing knowledge across relevant teams, utilising best practice and communities of practice to enhance the overall HSE performance.

Salary: AU$96k- AU$109k pa plus 15.4% superannuation

Tenure: Indefinite, Full-time

To be considered you will need:
  • A relevant trade certificate (eg. Cert 4 in Work Health and Safety) or equivalent relevant work experience in Health, Safety & Environment, Risk Management or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with HSE staff and key stakeholders to foster a positive safety culture and build strong relationships, with a capacity to adapt to changing environments and challenges to achieve team objectives.
  • Proven experience in understanding stakeholder priorities and working with HSE teams to design, deliver, and implement effective communication strategies (both written and verbal, such as training) to ensure consistent messaging across the organisation.
  • Experience in facilitating knowledge transfer within HSE teams and across stakeholders, while providing support, guidance, and coaching to colleagues, encouraging open communication and strong collaboration.
  • Proven ability to interpret legislation and regulatory standards, as well as other relevant information, to proactively identify potential issues and respond appropriately.
  • A current Australian Drivers Licence, as some driving between sites may be required.
  • Ability to travel to other FNQ and NT sites as required.
