Provide evidence-based psychological care for clients with substance use & mental health issues in a supportive, multidisciplinary team.

Purpose of position:

WSLHD Drug Health Service offers a range of treatment and support services for people with problems related to their substance use as well as to their families and carers. The Drug Health Clinical/Forensic Psychologist is responsible for the provision of psychological assessment and therapy for comorbid substance use and mental health issues. This position contributes to the care of clients within a multidisciplinary team under the direction and supervision of the Drug Health Psychology Team Leader, and the Allied Health Manager.


• Qualification: Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Forensic Psychology.


• Registration: General Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Selection Criteria:

1. Well-developed skills in assessment and formulation of complex presentations including psychometric and interview based assessment.

2. Well-developed skills in the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based psychological behaviour management and psychological interventions for consumers with substance use and mental health issues.

3. Well-developed skills in the development and facilitation of group therapy programs.

4. An understanding of the principles and practices of health care delivery as they apply to the Drug and Alcohol field, including standard treatment approaches and broad concepts such as harm-minimisation.

5. Well-developed skills in the development and management of research projects including data analysis and reporting results of research projects to appropriate publication standards.

6. Good negotiation and communication skills.

7. Demonstrated sound computer skills.

8. Current Drivers Licence valid within Australia.
