Safety Officer, Australia (2-Year Fixed Term)

About the role: The Safety Officer will oversee health and safety practices on the project, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and safety standards, and fostering a safe working environment. This role involves risk assessment, policy development and enforcement, training, and incident prevention.

Responsibilities
  • Risk assessment and site inspections to identify hazards and implement corrective actions
  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies in line with local regulations and safety standards
  • Manage safety plans with contractors, oversee compliance, and enforce safety provisions
  • Evaluate and approve safety plans and ensure contractors have required qualifications for high-risk tasks
  • Incident management: investigate accidents, near-misses, and incidents; implement corrective actions
  • Training and awareness: coordinate safety training for employees and contractors; promote a culture of safety
  • Documentation and reporting: maintain records of inspections, risk assessments, incidents, and corrective actions
  • Emergency preparedness: develop and test site emergency response plans and coordinate drills
  • Collaboration: work with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to minimize risks and ensure safety measures are followed
Qualifications
  • Certification in Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) or equivalent
  • At least 1–2 years of construction safety management experience
  • Knowledge of local safety regulations and high-risk construction works operations
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to be physically present on site and wear personal protective equipment as required
  • Willingness to work in varied weather conditions
