Lead Platform Engineer

Location: Melbourne, Australia

Position Overview: Fractal is looking for a proactive and driven Lead Platform Engineer to develop, deploy, and maintain DevOps tooling and infrastructure that enables seamless software delivery systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with technical services, developers, and senior management while bringing expertise in cloud-native infrastructure and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

Key Responsibilities:

Platform Leadership & Architecture:

1. Lead and architect GCP platform setup to support enterprise-scale data migrations
2. Design and implement secure cloud landing zones and infrastructure blueprints
3. Establish and maintain infrastructure as code (IaC) best practices using Terraform
4. Define and implement enterprise-wide DevOps practices and frameworks

Security & Compliance:

1. Develop and implement comprehensive security frameworks for cloud infrastructure
2. Establish security controls and compliance monitoring systems
3. Create and maintain security documentation and practices
4. Implement and maintain identity and access management solutions

Infrastructure & Operations:

1. Design and implement robust monitoring and observability frameworks
2. Lead the development and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines
3. Architect and implement disaster recovery solutions
4. Manage and optimize cloud infrastructure costs
5. Automate infrastructure operations using tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes

Team Leadership & Collaboration:

1. Lead and mentor DevOps team members in best practices and new technologies
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment of platform capabilities with business needs
3. Drive technical decision-making and architecture discussions
4. Provide technical guidance and support to development teams
5. Establish and maintain documentation standards for platform operations

Innovation & Optimization:

1. Evaluate and implement new tools and technologies to improve platform capabilities
2. Optimize existing infrastructure and processes for better performance and cost efficiency
3. Drive continuous improvement initiatives for platform reliability and scalability
4. Research and propose solutions for complex technical challenges

Qualifications:

1. Minimum 10-12+ years of overall experience with 6-8 years specifically in DevOps / Data DevOps domain.
2. Extensive experience in designing and implementing cloud-native solutions, specifically on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
3. Strong proficiency in containerization and orchestration technologies:
   1. Kubernetes ecosystem including Docker, Helm, and Kustomize
   2. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform
   3. Configuration management tools like Ansible
   4. CI/CD pipelines with Jenkins
4. Advanced programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, and Go.
5. Demonstrated expertise in implementing and maintaining observability, monitoring, and security tools.
6. Experience in designing and implementing enterprise-level DevOps best practices and CI/CD workflows.
7. Strong knowledge of cloud infrastructure technologies and their implementation at scale.
8. Exceptional problem-solving abilities with demonstrated experience in:
   1. Technical issue resolution and troubleshooting
   2. Requirement gathering and analysis
   3. Solution architecture and implementation
9. Outstanding communication and coordination skills.
10. Quick learner with demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies.
