Who We Are & Why We're Different

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a community-led Aboriginal health service delivering integrated primary healthcare, allied health, and wellbeing programs across more than 160,000 km² of remote NT — stretching from the Victoria River country along the WA border to the tip of the Tanami desert.

Our work is grounded in cultural security, guided by community control, and driven by long-term impact. From maternal health to disability support, we build trusted relationships that lead to real outcomes for our mob in the bush.

As an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation, we value inclusion, local leadership, and purpose-driven people. We're not your typical workplace — and we're proud of that.

Your Next Move: Strategic Finance with Purpose

Katherine West Health Board is looking for a full-time Senior Finance Manager, based in Katherine or Darwin, NT.

Reporting to the Executive Manager Corporate Services, you'll lead the financial operations of KWHB, working closely with internal teams and funding bodies to ensure systems, insights, and reporting support the organisation's continued growth.

This isn't a back-office finance job — this is your chance to lead, influence, and build the financial capability that enables better outcomes on the ground.

More specifically, your responsibilities include:

• Maintaining the KWHB financial management information system

• Leading the development and refinement of financial systems, processes, and procedures

• Manage end to end operations of the finance team including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, allowances, and reconciliation

• Ensuring timely and accurate reporting and compliance across a diverse range of funded program activities

• Preparing accurate, insightful monthly reports and financial analyses

• Partnering with program managers to connect operational activity to financial performance

• Leading the annual budgeting process and tracking program-level expenditure

• Overseeing end-of-year audits and financial preparation for the AGM

• Guiding the rollout of a new integrated finance and HR system

• Identifying process improvements and leading collaborative change implementation

Is This You?

You'll be a qualified finance professional with a strong technical foundation — but what sets you apart is your mindset and leadership potential.

To qualify, you will need a tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance, with 5+ years of experience in financial management and proven team leadership. CA or CPA accreditation is highly desirable.

You will also bring:

• A background in not-for-profit, NGO, or complex program funding environments

• Comfort navigating multiple funding streams and reporting requirements

• Excellent communication skills — able to translate numbers into operational insight

• Experience leading system/process improvement and rolling out new platforms

• Confidence working cross-functionally and influencing stakeholders at all levels

You're not just a steady hand — you're a forward-thinker who can see the connections between operations and financial performance.

This is the perfect role for someone who is ready to step into a broader strategic remit.

Why You'll Love Working with Us

We offer a competitive salary starting at $135,000 + super, with flexibility to negotiate depending on experience and for the right person. You'll also enjoy:

• Relocation assistance and supported onboarding

• Salary packaging up to $18,500

• 6 weeks' annual leave

• Generous professional development budget

• A culturally grounded and community-led organisation

• Flexibility to work from Katherine or Darwin

• A clear pathway to leadership as the organisation continues to grow

This is a rare opportunity to step into a meaningful leadership role where your work will directly support better outcomes for Aboriginal communities in the NT.
