About the Role
Our client, a leading and highly respected organisation with a broad range of operations, is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its in-house legal services team.

This is a rare opportunity for a senior employment lawyer or workplace relations lawyer to work in a complex, high-profile environment that offers variety, professional challenge, and the chance to make a real impact without the pressure of private practice time billing.

In this pivotal position, you will provide high-level legal and strategic advice on workplace relations, employment law, discrimination, misconduct, grievances, and dispute resolution, as well as manage significant litigation and contentious matters. You'll work closely with senior executives, advise on sensitive issues, and lead and mentor junior lawyers in a collaborative and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic legal advice on all aspects of employment law and workplace relations, including unfair dismissal, discrimination claims, misconduct, investigations, employment contracts, workplace health and safety, and enterprise bargaining.

Manage complex litigation and disputes across state and federal jurisdictions.

Advise on dispute resolution strategies, including mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes.

Mentor and supervise junior and mid-level lawyers to deliver exceptional legal services.

Provide advice on administrative law, policy development, governance, and regulatory compliance.

Engage with insurers, external legal counsel, and stakeholders to secure the best outcomes.

About You
The ideal candidate will have:

Admission as a Solicitor or Barrister in Queensland (or eligible for admission).

At least 7+ years' post-admission experience with strong expertise in workplace relations, employment law, industrial relations, and litigation.

Experience advising on sensitive employment and dispute matters in complex organisations, statutory bodies, or government environments.

Excellent advocacy, drafting, and negotiation skills, with the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines.

Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to influence and communicate effectively across all organisational levels.
