ASIC's Market Infrastructure team is seeking analysts to join the Securities or Derivatives teams. These roles offer the opportunity to contribute to the stability and integrity of Australia's financial markets by assessing market participants, conducting supervision activities, and delivering regulatory outcomes that promote compliance with the law.
  • Location - Sydney
  • Salary - $123,444 to $144,386 (plus 15.4% superannuation) depending on experience
  • Permanent
  • Part-time and flexible work arrangements possible

The team

ASIC's Markets Group is responsible for ensuring investors have the trust and confidence to invest in Australia's financial markets and ensuring all Market participants, infrastructure providers and gatekeepers operate with integrity, resilience, and transparency.

Within the Markets Group, Market Infrastructure is responsible for authorising and supervising all financial market infrastructure operators in Australia.

The Market Infrastructure team is looking for team members to join our Securities and Derivatives teams:
  • The Securities team supervises and assesses the product listing and admission process, operational resilience and trading operations of licensed financial securities markets, including the oversight of new products and trading developments. We also supervise credit rating agencies.
  • The Derivatives team deals with the licensing and supervision of derivatives market infrastructures operating in Australia, including exchanges, trading platforms, trade repositories and benchmark administrators.

The Role

As An Analyst, You Will
  • Identify, assess and implement regulatory strategies and interventions to support compliance and address misconduct or market integrity risks.
  • Assess the suitability and ongoing appropriateness of financial products admitted to public markets and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Conduct research and analysis on market developments and emerging issues to inform regulatory priorities, law reform, and guidance.
  • Draft clear, accurate and structured reports, submissions, presentations and internal advice on regulatory matters, including contributions to Commission papers.
  • Analyse and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to inform regulatory judgments and monitor sector trends.
  • Coordinate and contribute to effective engagement with internal teams and external stakeholders, including regulated entities and other regulators.

About You

You will hold tertiary qualifications in commerce, finance, economics or law, and bring experience working as an analyst in a regulatory, corporate, consulting or academic setting. A foundational understanding of exchange-traded financial products—such as cash equities, futures and OTC derivatives—and financial market infrastructure is desirable, with more senior candidates demonstrating deep technical knowledge and experience applying risk or compliance frameworks to markets, products or participants. Familiarity with relevant legislation, including the Corporations Act and ASIC's Market Integrity Rules, is desirable for more senior candidates. You will have the ability to analyse and interpret both quantitative and qualitative data and use it to support sound regulatory decision-making.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, along with the ability to explain complex concepts clearly and engage effectively with stakeholders. You will demonstrate sound judgement, curiosity, and a collaborative mindset. An understanding of the ASIC Derivatives Transaction Rules (Reporting) as they relate to OTC derivatives reporting obligations, data requirements, and the broader regulatory framework is highly desirable. Across all levels, you will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, evolving environment and contributing to a strong team culture.
