Senior Solutions Architect - Public Sector

Location: Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, Australia

AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from public sector customers, including government agencies. The Solutions Architect team at AWS helps customers implement cloud technologies by crafting scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures that address business problems. This role is part of the Public Sector team and focuses on building mind share and broad use of AWS cloud services within strategic accounts and managing ongoing technical relationships with customers in the Australian Government community.

The role involves owning the technical engagement and success of specific implementation projects, developing deep expertise in AWS technologies, and understanding how applications and services are constructed on the AWS platform. You will interact with customers at technical and executive levels, drive discussions, and influence stakeholders while ensuring short-term decisions align with long-term goals.

You will also act as a thought leader by educating others, sharing best practices, presenting at events, writing white papers/blogs, and running workshops. You will gather customer feedback and collaborate with engineering and service teams to shape product directions.

As a customer-obsessed advisor, you will help shape the direction of AWS products and services and manage the on-going technical relationship with customers in the public sector.

Key job responsibilities

• Help customers plan their cloud journey and solve complex technical challenges, crafting scalable, flexible, and resilient cloud architectures.
• Drive technical solution discussions and dive deep with customer teams.
• Build relationships to understand customers and partners; act as a trusted technical advisor and influence stakeholders from technical teams to executives.
• Accelerate adoption of AWS services as part of day-to-day activities.
• Think strategically about business, product, and technical challenges; represent Amazon well within customer environments.
• Educate the wider community through events, papers, blogs, and workshops; lead industry movements where applicable.
• Shape product direction by gathering customer feedback and collaborating with engineering teams.
• Maintain security accreditation considerations where required and manage relevant compliance discussions.

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in technology domains such as software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics
• 7+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture, and networking experience
• Ability to lead complex technical projects that may require cross-team collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience communicating across technical and non-technical audiences, including executive stakeholders
• Experience architecting or deploying Cloud/Virtualization solutions in enterprise customers
• Ability to create proofs of concept, demos, or scripts from scratch or using reusable components
• Experience working with the Federal government
• Ability to present to technical and business audiences (training, workshops, publications)
