About you

We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong frontend expertise to join our product engineering team and help us deliver reliable, scalable, and well-crafted software. In this role, you'll work hands-on with modern technologies, collaborate closely with your teammates and stakeholders, and contribute to both the design and delivery of product features that create real value for customers.

This is a role for an experienced frontend engineer who enjoys solving problems end-to-end, from understanding business needs through to writing maintainable code, improving systems, and helping others grow. You'll have the opportunity to shape how we build and deliver software as we scale our product and our team.

The role

As a Senior Software Engineer at splose, you will be a key contributor within a cross-functional product engineering team, responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of software systems. This role focuses on frontend, but you may also have the opportunity to work on backend or infrastructure to deliver scalable, reliable, and maintainable solutions aligned with product and business goals. You will also contribute to system architecture, improve development practices, and support the growth of their peers through mentoring and collaboration. You will balance hands-on technical work with strong communication and problem-solving skills to ensure delivery of high-quality software in a team environment.

What you'll do:

• Software Development: Design, build, and maintain high-quality software systems. Take ownership of end-to-end implementation across your focus area — frontend, backend, or full stack.
• Architecture & Design: Contribute to system and component design, considering scalability, maintainability, and performance.
• Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, product managers, and designers to refine requirements and deliver solutions aligned with customer needs.
• Code Quality & Testing: Write clean, testable, and well-documented code. Contribute to and uphold automated testing practices to ensure confidence in releases.
• Mentoring & Technical Guidance: Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and informal mentoring to support the development of less experienced team members.
• Continuous Improvement: Help improve team workflows, development practices, and tooling to enhance product quality and delivery efficiency.

What we're looking for:

• Several years of hands-on frontend software development experience in a team environment.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver production-ready systems and contribute to complex feature development.
• Experience mentoring or supporting the growth of other engineers.

What we're looking for you to bring:

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in a modern programming language and associated frameworks
• Strong expertise in frontend development (React, component architecture, UI/UX, performance optimisation, accessibility)
• Working knowledge of backend including APIs and relational databases/SQL.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP) and services; and deployment practices and pipelines (GitHub Actions etc.).
• Knowledge of automated testing frameworks and quality assurance strategies a bonus.
• Proven experience in leading development teams and mentoring junior developers.
• Ability to guide team members, conduct code reviews, and facilitate technical discussions.

Collaboration and Communication:

• Effective communicator who can work closely with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strong contributor to team discussions, decision-making, and problem-solving.
• Open to feedback, with a team-oriented mindset and commitment to shared goals.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Relevant university degree or equivalent practical experience
• Experience working on SaaS products or customer-facing web applications.
