About The Role
The Principal Engineer is a visionary technical leader, charged with shaping and owning the technical architecture of the platform (or platform domain) at a strategic level. This role sets the direction for platform evolution, ensuring every decision aligns with business and product objectives and positions Tyro at the forefront of technology innovation. You'll craft platform capabilities that are robust, scalable, and intuitive, keeping the end-user experience at the heart of design. By championing reusable and accessible platform services, you'll set the standard for technical excellence.
What You'll Do
- Platform Architecture Leadership: Define and own scalable, reusable, and accessible platform architecture; establish standardised patterns for platform service consumption.
- Strategic Alignment and Governance: Shape platform strategy aligned with business and product goals; govern platform usage for consistency and long-term alignment.
- Architectural Standards and Best Practices: Set and uphold platform technologies, standards, and best practices; drive sustainable evolution through architectural discipline.
- Enterprise-Wide Collaboration: Align with Principal Engineers and Architecture to uphold enterprise standards; champion reusability and cross-platform learning.
- Engineering Enablement and Delivery: Guide squads on system design, delivery, and operational best practices; resolve complex issues to enable delivery.
What You'll Bring
- Strong experience in software development, system design, and technical leadership.
- Excellent problem-solving, organisational, and analytical skills, including root cause analysis and post-incident reviews.
- Expertise in cloud-based architectures, microservices, and distributed systems.
- Experience in incident management, platform reliability, and operational best practices.
- Deep understanding of agile methodologies, DevOps principles, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to influence across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Passion for mentoring, coaching, and fostering technical growth within teams.
