- Lead, manage and develop a dynamic team of Youth Justice staff.
- Salary range $104,544 - $115,355 per annum plus superannuation.
The Department's Youth Justice Service provides programs and resources to assist young people to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to manage their lives effectively without further offending. Through supervision, offending related programs and linkages to appropriate support services, the youth justice service promotes opportunities for rehabilitation and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community.
About The RoleThe Youth Justice team leader is responsible for supporting the day-to-day delivery of services to young people including the professional supervision of staff engaged in providing statutory supervision and case management of young people subject to Youth Justice Orders. The team promotes the personal development of young people and contributes to the reduction of crime in the community including:
- Community-based supervision and support services for young people.
- Youth-specific court liaison, advice and support services to the Children's Court and adult courts.
- Reports and advice to the Youth Residential Board and Youth Parole Board.
As our ideal candidate, you will demonstrate:
- An understanding of the youth justice system, particularly the principles and philosophy underpinning relevant legislation and the Victorian Youth Justice program.
- An understanding of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 and associated policies and guidelines developed for use by youth justice workers.
- An advanced understanding of the principles of case management and case work.
- Demonstrated leadership/mentoring skills and experience.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to effectively influence and negotiate.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A Bachelor of Social Work or Diploma in Community Services Work is highly desirable. Other tertiary qualifications at Diploma level or above will be considered only if they include units of study in case management/casework practice and have had supervised practical work placements.
- A full driver's licence is required due to the need to respond to emergencies across the state at short notice and outside business hours as required.
- A current employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required and will need to be provided prior to commencement of employment by the applicant. Currency will need to be maintained by the employee for the period of employment.
