Position Purpose

The STEM Facilitator is responsible for delivering engaging, hands-on STEM learning experiences to children and young people through school incursions, holiday camps, afterschool STEM clubs, tutoring programs, workshops, and science-themed parties. This role combines subject knowledge, enthusiasm for teaching, and the ability to manage groups effectively in dynamic environments.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery

  • Facilitate STEM programs across multiple formats, including:
  • School incursions aligned to the Australian Curriculum
  • Holiday STEM camps
  • Afterschool STEM clubs
  • One-on-one or small group STEM tutoring
  • Science parties and community events

Present content in an engaging, age-appropriate, and interactive way.

Prepare program materials, equipment, and resources before sessions.

Conduct safe setup and pack-up of activities, ensuring venues are left tidy.

Child Engagement & Safety

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment.
  • Apply effective group management strategies to maintain safety and focus.
  • Comply with child safety and safeguarding policies at all times.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, carers, and school staff.

Resource Management

  • Maintain and store equipment safely between programs.
  • Report damaged or missing equipment promptly.
  • Assist in developing and improving STEM resources and activities.

Compliance & Administration

  • Complete session attendance records and incident reports when required.
  • Follow all workplace health and safety (WHS) procedures.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with approved risk assessments.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential

  • Passion for STEM education and inspiring young learners.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with children aged 5–15.
  • Ability to manage groups of varying sizes independently.
  • Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
  • Current driver's licence and reliable transport.
  • Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends, and during school holidays.

Desirable

  • Experience delivering educational or recreational programs to children.
  • Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum in STEM subjects.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Qualifications or studies in education, science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment (up to 10 kg).
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors.
  • Able to travel between multiple locations. (Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast)
