Overview

A fully funded PhD position is available in computational and experimental optics for light-sheet microscopy, jointly undertaken between A*STAR, Singapore and the University of Melbourne, Australia. The project sits at the intersection of optics, biomedical imaging, and microtechnology, with aims to invent miniaturized lab-on-a-chip devices for microscopy. The degree will be awarded by the University of Melbourne.

Responsibilities
  • Perform optical simulation, design, and clean-room microfabrication in Australia (~1.5 years).
  • Conduct computational analysis and validation using a variety of biological systems in Singapore (~1.5 years).
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Engineering (H1, GPA 3.4/4.0 or higher).
  • English proficiency: IELTS overall 6.5 (minimum 6 in each component) or TOEFL (minimum 20 in reading/writing and minimum 18 in speaking/listening).
  • Proficiency in scientific programming (C++/Python) and/or hands-on experience with optical experiments and/or clean-room microfabrication.
  • Interest in experimental bio-imaging.
  • Experience in presenting scientific work via publications or seminars.
