The School of Pathology at UNSW Sydney is seeking a highly motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow (Immunology) to join a cutting-edge research program led by Dr. Deborah Burnett. This position offers an opportunity to investigate adaptive immune recognition, tolerance, and autoimmunity, with direct translational relevance to infection, vaccination, and immune-mediated disease.

This fellowship explores how the adaptive immune system recognizes and responds to both foreign and self-antigens. Using advanced molecular and cellular tools, the successful candidate will gain valuable insights into the mechanisms of immune tolerance and autoimmunity. The project combines human samples, animal models, and single-cell transcriptomics to uncover pathways with direct translational implications.

Key Responsibilities

Employ flow cytometry, ELISA, PCR, RNA sequencing, and in vivo models to study immune cell responses.

Conduct and analyse experiments involving B cell and T cell biology.

Maintain accurate lab records and contribute to collaborative team outputs.

Publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.

Support mentoring and training of students and research assistants.

Required Qualifications & Skills

PhD in Immunology or related biomedical discipline.

Demonstrated technical expertise in multi-colour flow cytometry, RNA sequencing, PCR, and molecular cloning.

Strong ability to work independently and in teams.

Excellent organisational and scientific communication skills.

Experience in mouse colony management and autoimmunity research.

Bioinformatics skills in analysing transcriptomic or repertoire sequencing data.

Previous research in B cell biology or immune tolerance.

Employment Conditions & Benefits

Type: Full-time (35 hours/week) or part-time considered.

Duration: 2 years fixed-term.

Salary: $91,000 – $121,000 AUD base + 17% superannuation + leave loading.

Location: UNSW Kensington Campus, Sydney, NSW.
