Hours: Flexible hours, averaging 7.6 hours per day, with possible longer days depending on On Country activities

Salary/Rate: $95,000-$110,000 p.a. pro rata depending on experience and role tenure + 12% superannuation

Location: Wollongbar depot, Lismore office, and sites across Bundjalung Country and Northern NSW

We are committed to caring for Country, working closely with First Nations communities, government agencies, local industries, landholders, and the wider community to protect and restore Jagun (Country).

About the role

The On Country Coordinator will collaborate with the Caring for Country Team to plan and implement projects, spending at least 50% of their time in the field with the ranger team. Responsibilities include coordinating work planning, liaising with stakeholders, mentoring, supervising staff, and overseeing policies, safety, and cultural land management activities such as cultural burning, bush regeneration, site protection, and river restoration.

This is a targeted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander position. Preference will be given to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates. If none are suitable, applications from other candidates will be considered.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assist in planning and implementing projects in consultation with the Caring for Country Lead.
  2. Supervise Ranger team members' work planning and activities.
  3. Manage projects and grant opportunities, including stakeholder engagement.
  4. Procure and maintain equipment, PPE, and uniforms in coordination with the Caring for Country Lead.
  5. Supervise high-risk activities such as fire management and water-based operations.
  6. Develop burn plans, risk assessments, and property management plans.
  7. Review and implement policies for safe project delivery.
  8. Induct new staff and coordinate work programs for Rangers.
  9. Support event management for workshops and field days.
  10. Oversee fee-for-service activities and explore funding opportunities.
  11. Coordinate project delivery and team supervision, ensuring safety and cultural integrity.
  12. Demonstrate experience in project coordination, team leadership, and cultural land management, including cultural burning.
  13. Possess a valid driver's license and ability to operate 4WD vehicles.
  14. Be physically capable of land management tasks, including using tools and staying overnight in remote locations.
