There are approximately 30,000 Paediatric Emergency presentations per year, and General Paediatrics works closely with the team in the Paediatric Emergency department. There is a busy Paediatric Outpatient unit, and trainees get plenty of opportunity for exposure to outpatient medicine. There are also a number of paediatric subspecialty outpatients including cardiology, allergy, adolescent medicine, dermatology, mental health, neurology, and endocrinology. The position is accredited by the RACP for core Advanced Training in General Paediatrics (without perinatal).

    • Exposure to a wide range of inpatient and outpatient situations requiring independent decision making, with dedicated admin time.
    • Teaching and supervision of Junior Medical Staff seconded from Western Health and Royal Children's Hospital is an important role of the position, and the chief registrar will also take medical student tutorials. The Chief Registrar assists in planning the educational program for the department, with support from consultants.
    • Involvement in safety and quality for paediatrics including M&M, procedure and guideline development, and parent information leaflets. Opportunity to be involved in other areas of departmental administration and governance.
    • Active teaching and research programs in place with expectation of contributions by the successful applicant. Simulation scenarios are regularly run on the ward and there is opportunity to become involved with the faculty/running of these simulations for a trainee wishing to pursue this.
    • Organisation of the annual FRACP examination locally, with close support from our consultant team to achieve this.
    • Time and opportunity to explore a special interest within General Paediatrics.
