The Role

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading and managing a team of PHP and Java developers to deliver the company's product and technology roadmap. This role ensures that engineering practices, delivery timelines, and quality standards are met while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and coach PHP and Java development teams.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development planning.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance engineering culture.

Roadmap Delivery

• Translate the product/technology roadmap into actionable engineering plans.
• Own the end-to-end delivery lifecycle — planning, execution, deployment, and post-release support.
• Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with high quality.

Technical Oversight

• Provide architectural guidance across PHP and Java systems.
• Ensure best practices in code quality, design patterns, testing, and security.
• Partner with architects and senior engineers to evolve system architecture and scalability.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with Product Managers to refine requirements and prioritize backlog.
• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and Security teams to streamline delivery pipelines.
• Communicate project status, risks, and dependencies to stakeholders.

Process & Delivery Excellence

• Implement agile/scrum practices for planning, estimation, and retrospectives.
• Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and tooling.
• Ensure effective incident management and root cause analysis.
• Proven experience managing engineering teams delivering PHP and Java applications.
• Strong understanding of web application architectures, APIs, and enterprise integrations.
• Hands-on coding/architectural background (PHP frameworks, Java/Spring Boot).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and cloud (AWS).
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2–3 years in a leadership/management role.
• Track record of delivering complex software projects in an agile environment.
