We are partnering with a leading energy infrastructure provider to recruit an experienced Commissioning Engineer. This is a permanent, Sydney-based opportunity, focusing on high voltage substation upgrades for multi-year projects in Sydney.

About The Role

On behalf of our client, we are seeking a skilled HV Commissioning Engineer with strong experience in substation protection and secondary systems.

In this role, you will lead and perform on-site commissioning, testing, and verification of protection and control systems across HV substations. You will be responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant commissioning activities, supporting system energization, and coordinating with project management and site teams to deliver projects safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct commissioning and testing of HV substations, including transformers, switchgear, busbars, and protection relays
• Perform secondary system testing, including Omicron or similar protection and control testing units
• Develop test plans, execute FAT/SAT, and prepare reports, as-built documentation, and commissioning records
• Conduct onsite HV cable testing, terminations, and feeder/array commissioning
• Integrate and test SCADA, PLC, and control systems with the substation network
• Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards on site
• Mentor or lead junior engineers during commissioning activities
  
  

About You

• Proven experience in HV substation commissioning, secondary systems, and protection testing
• Hands-on knowledge of protection relay configuration, fault-finding, and control systems
• Experienced with HV cabling, Omicron units, and SCADA integration testing
• Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements
• Ability to lead commissioning activities onsite and work collaboratively with project teams
• Engineering qualification or relevant trade/technical experience highly regarded
