Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the northern regions of Tasmania. NTPS is the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania, delivering high-quality services with no out-of-pocket expenses for Medicare-eligible tests. The team includes scientists, technicians, non-technical staff and pathologists. This role is primarily based in the Biochemistry department, with possible work in other sections under supervision.
Responsibilities- Apply professional judgment and scientific specialist knowledge toward performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures.
- Forge close professional relationships with interdepartmental teams and communicate information confidentially with requestors and clinical personnel regarding samples, results or test-related information.
- Tertiary qualification/program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, Science or Applied Science or equivalent from a recognised institution.
- Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, The Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia or the Australian Society of Cytology.
- Where there is no relevant professional body, the essential qualification must be met.
- Desirable: Membership/Fellowship awarded by a recognised professional body.
- Fixed term, part time, shift worker position, working 48 hours per fortnight, commencing from 01 September 2025 until 25 September 2026. Hours not necessarily fixed and may be negotiated with the successful applicant.
- Participation in out-of-hours call-back service roster is a requirement of this role.
- Salary: $73,834 to $111,364 per annum, pro rata. Employer 12% superannuation on top of this amount.
- Salary packaging benefits, including living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meal entertainment per FBT year, and other eligible benefits.
- Additional allowances available, such as Professional Development Allowance up to $1,000 per annum.
- Benefits for eligible candidates include professional development opportunities, various leave entitlements (including study leave), Fitness Passport access for you and your family at a reduced cost.
