Details: An exciting opportunity exists to take a lead role in the implementation of the Variation in Sex Characteristics (Restricted Medical Treatment) Act 2023. The Health Policy and Strategy Branch is seeking officers to fulfill a permanent Assistant Director role and a six-month Assistant Director role. These roles will be responsible for supporting the Variation in Sex Characteristics (VSC) Restricted Medical Treatment Assessment Board and leading policy work to implement the Variation in Sex Characteristics (Restricted Medical Treatment) Act 2023.

The VSC reforms underway in the ACT are nation leading. We are looking for motivated officers with the ability to think critically and make sound judgments in a complex and sensitive area. They will be expected to work collaboratively across a range of areas in ACT Health, with other ACT Government directorates and external stakeholders. The incumbent will communicate professionally and work with flexibility and efficiency, both individually and as part of a complex team and community effort.

These new roles will be located within and receive support from the LGBTIQA+ Health Policy Team.

Eligibility/Other Requirements:

  • Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
  • Prior to commencement, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.

Note: The ability to work remotely or in a hybrid arrangement (home and office) is important. The Health Policy and Strategy Branch is currently working primarily from home; however, staff are encouraged to attend the office at least two days per week. We offer flexible arrangements that can be negotiated with your manager. There is also an option to work from the office five days a week if preferred. Selection may be based on written applications and referee reports.
