Position Overview:

The RTI and IP Officer is responsible for administering and applying the Right to Information Act 2009 and Information Privacy Act 2009. This role involves decision-making on information access, amendments, and releases, ensuring compliance with privacy and transparency obligations. The officer also supports financial analysis, reporting, and provides expert advice and training on RTI and IP legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Legislative Compliance: Apply and interpret RTI and IP Acts, making informed decisions on information access, amendments, and release.

  • Advisory Services: Provide advice on the Information Privacy Act 2009 and ensure compliance with privacy legislation.

  • Research & Analysis: Assess legislative requirements and ensure decisions are accurate and compliant.

  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare notices, reasons for decisions, and reports related to RTI and IP applications.

  • Financial Support: Assist with budgeting, cost analysis, and annual reporting.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, offering advice on RTI and IP issues.

  • Training & Awareness: Develop and deliver training to staff on RTI and IP legislative obligations.

  • System Management: Use ECM systems for managing and storing documents in compliance with legislation.

Key Skills and Competencies:
  • In-depth knowledge of RTI and IP legislation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and negotiation.

  • Analytical skills to assess and apply legal requirements.

  • Experience in financial analysis and reporting.

  • Ability to build relationships with stakeholders and deliver training.

Qualifications and Experience:
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, public administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Experience with RTI and IP legislation, ideally in a government or regulatory setting.

  • Strong research, decision-making, and report-writing skills.
