College Counsellor

Full Time Role (40 weeks term time)

Situated in the Newcastle region, Belmont Christian College is a co-educational College of over 900 students that operates within a unique and spiritually nurturing environment that combines strong academic and wellbeing foundations with Christian values.

The College Counsellor is a key member of the Student Support Team and provides individual counselling apart from assisting in the College's (P-12) wellbeing support, initiatives and programs. The role provides clinical assessment, counselling and facilitates referrals with a range of external stakeholders to support students, their families and staff. The position is for 7.6 hours per day, 5 days per week, 40 weeks per annum with a 4 weeks annual leave .

The successful applicant should have:


• A degree in Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work (desirable)

• Provisional or full registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) OR

• Maintain registration and/or membership with at least one relevant professional association, such as ACA, APACS and APACS NSW or PACFA OR

• Have an ACA Level 01 membership which requires completion of an ACA-accredited Diploma of Counselling or an equivalent qualification, along with CPD, clinical supervision and adherence to ethical standards.

• Previous experience in school counselling (including writing and reporting)

• Knowledge of and a deep commitment to child safety in an education setting.

• Current Working with Children Check.

• Proven ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders, including teachers, staff, parents, and external agencies.

• First Aid certificate.

• Demonstrated substantial experience in the following:
-Communication and interpersonal skills
-Commitment to Child Safety
-Confidentiality & Ethical Practice

All staff are required to be Christians with Christian values, active in their local church and have a willingness to follow the College's Codes of Conduct and child safe policies.

The role works full time (38 hours) during term time (40 weeks) and has 4 weeks paid annual leave during non-term time.
