Townsville Grammar School is one of the original Grammar Schools of Queensland. The Year 7-12 campus is located on the original site at North Ward. The School also operates two Junior School campuses, both offering Pre-Prep to Year 6, at Annandale and North Shore.

Townsville Grammar School is a co-educational, non-denominational School with a current enrolment of approximately 1395 students, including 120 boarders (7-12), of whom approximately 25 are international students.

As one of the eight original Grammar schools in Queensland, Townsville Grammar School was established in 1888 and has offered boarding since this time. The School has a long-standing reputation as the leading academic school in Northern Queensland, also offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme for Years 11 and 12.

We have a one-year full time contract opportunity for an enthusiastic and experienced Pre-Prep Teacher to join our highly reputable Early Education Centres at our North Shore campus to commence in January 2026.


The Pre-Prep Teacher will support the aims and ethos of Independent Schools and be willing to participate in the co-curricular and pastoral life of the School. You will be responsible for the day-to-day planning, preparation, and operation of the assigned classroom, and providing direction and support to educators and staff. Additionally, you will build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and management to deliver excellent outcomes.


A Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (or an ACECQA recognised equivalent) is mandatory for this role.


Responsibilities include:

  • Plan and implement a play-based program suitable to the needs and interests of the children attending the Centre.
  • Develop and deliver thematic, emergent interest-based experiences, with individual planning to support and extend each child's learning development.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Early Education, establish and maintain suitable developmental records.
  • Plan through play for the long and the short-term needs and goals of each child.
  • Treat each child with dignity and respect, taking into consideration any cultural, socio-economic, or other differences that may arise.

Our ideal candidate will have the following attributes and experience:

  • The ability to contribute to and guide the planning, implementation, evaluation, and reflection of play-based programs responsive to children's interests, strengths, and abilities.
  • A proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • A knowledge and understanding of the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines and Early Years Learning Framework of deep level.
  • Proven experience working within an Early Learning Centre environment which is part of a Prep - Year 12 school.
  • The ability to create inspiring, interesting, and age-appropriate learning environments to engage children.
