Overview

EL2 Director, Health Impact Evaluation Unit. The Health Impact Evaluation Unit is a new unit in the Australian Centre for Evaluation (ACE).


The ACE's mission is to improve the volume, quality, and use of evaluations across the APS, working in close collaboration with evaluation units in other departments and agencies. The aim is to embed an enduring culture of evaluation across the Australian Government, through evaluation leadership and promotion (including the Commonwealth Evaluation Policy and Toolkit), championing high-quality impact evaluations such as randomised trials, overseeing efforts to improve evaluation capability across the Australian Government, and embedding evaluation planning and use in the Budget process. The ACE reports to the Assistant Minister for Productivity, Competition, Charities and the Treasury, Andrew Leigh. More information about the ACE can be found at evaluation.treasury.gov.au



Responsibilities
  • As Director of the Health Impact Evaluation Unit, help establish and lead a small new team responsible for delivering all elements of a 3-year agreement between the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing (DoHDA) and the ACE. The team will comprise 3 members (including the Director).
  • Collaborate with DoHDA colleagues on:
    • the design and delivery of up to 3 impact evaluations, and
    • the delivery of several technical reports or other resources on evaluation synthesis, evaluation resources/training, and impact modelling.


  • As Director, you will be responsible, jointly with other EL2s, for managing the ACE's relationship with DoHDA and other stakeholders.
  • Join the ACE's leadership team (Assistant Secretary and 3 other EL2s) in setting the priorities, identifying opportunities, and managing risks for the ACE.


Qualifications
  • Experience at EL2 level in evaluation leadership or a closely related field within the APS, with the ability to lead a small team and collaborate across government.
